NTM's Position on Carbide Tariffs

Understanding the Impact of China Tariffs on Carbide Material Costs

In recent months, new tariffs on imported carbide material from China have begun to affect manufacturers across the United States. At NTM, we’re closely monitoring these carbide tariff developments to ensure transparency and consistency in our pricing. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Current Inventory Shields Against Immediate Tariffs

As of May 2025, our robust inventory of Stubby® Boring Bars and carbide material provides a buffer against newly imposed tariff fees. This means that orders fulfilled from existing stock will not incur additional tariff costs—protecting your tooling budgets in the short term.

2. How Tariffs Will Be Applied Going Forward

Once our on‑hand inventory is depleted, we’ll need to purchase carbide at the new tariff‑inclusive rates. To keep your costs predictable, we’ll list any tariff fees as a separate line item on your invoice based strictly on the materials used to fulfill your order. This approach ensures:

  • Clarity: You’ll see exactly what portion of the cost derives from tariffs.
  • Consistency: Your tooling prices remain unchanged unless there’s a company‑wide price adjustment.

3. Annual Price Adjustments—90‑Day Notice

If average costs of doing business rise significantly (including sustained tariff impacts), we may implement an annual price increase. Rest assured, you’ll receive at least a 90‑day notice before any price change takes effect.

4. Our Commitment to Supply Chain Stability

We’re grateful for our carbide suppliers, whose proactive communication and reliable stock levels help us keep your tooling needs met without interruption. Our operations team continues to maintain ample inventory to minimize your exposure to tariff increases.
